I totally agree, and we are looking into getting better food at the next event. The biggest problem we have though is finding a good venue that doesn't mind us changing the number of people that are attending continuously.

Even before we took over the organization, the food was never a real "dinner" and we always try to make this clear to people that sign up. That doesn't stop us from looking into more veggies for next time, but I am afraid it might become more expensive then.

To answer some of your other questions: the money you pay us goes completely to the food. We, the volunteers do not take any money except for the maybe 2 or 3 pounds that is left as change, but this is then used to cover the costs of stickers, etc.

We are an organization run by volunteers and I always encourage people to help out. So if you know a good place that we could hold the dinners at, which serves cheap and healthy food, and doesn't mind us basically not knowing how many people will turn up, then please let us know.

I hope this answered your questions and I will be looking forward to seeing you at the next GeekDinner.

Hi. I'd go for a £5-£10 option only if the food becomes better... is that not reasonable? I don't think an improvement to the food requires the budget to exceed £10.

I was really disappointed by the food at the recent iPlayer geek dinner. I hadn't been to the Thai Garden venue before. Fuelled by beer and hunger, I was initially quite pleased to be tucking into some crispy fried Thai food. But in the end it was just too much deep fried food to be considered a real 'dinner'. I resent paying £8 for being served up a selection of greasy starters.

I don't see why the Thai place couldn't cook up a big vat of Thai vegetable and tofu curry with some plain rice. It would be much healthier and filling and satisfying.

Is the cost just for food or do you have other expenses you're trying to cover as well? I'd rather pay a lesser amount to help cover non-food costs and eat before I come than pay for this kind of food.

Thanks to the volunteers I hope will read this - and please do respond/email me as I have booked (and paid up) for the next one and would like to know what the food will be!
