London Geek Meet 2: Space Invader Hunting

It’s time for another London Geek Meet! With this one I wanted to try something a bit different, so we’ll be going geocache hunting. Geocaching is a treasure-hunting puzzle-solving type of game, where people hide and look for secret containers (called geocaches) with the help of GPS. Some caches are straightforward: the clue is a GPS location, you go to that location and the cache is hidden somewhere there. Others can be a bit more elaborate, where you first have to solve certain puzzles and riddles before you can find the cache.

We’ll be doing a special geocache quest revolving around the Space Invader Invasion. Observant Londoners may have noticed these little creatures lurking from side streets and street corners. They are all part of the ‘Invasion’, a street art project from an artist known only by the name Invader. So far 35 cities have already been invaded, including London, New York, Amsterdam and Paris. Here’s a photo of one of the Space Invaders in Paris:

With this Geocache hunt we’ll be searching for 12 of these Space Invaders hidden around central London. Each Space Invader will lead to a clue needed to solve the location of the final hidden cache. The hunt is supposed to take about 3 to 3.5 hours, but we’ll also take a break to have some coffee or beer somewhere (and maybe dinner afterwards).

When: Sunday, September 21st, 13:00
Where: Covent Garden Tube Station

Activity: Geocache Hunting/Sightseeing/Photography
Cost: Food and coffee on buy your own basis

We’ll meet up in front of Covent Garden Tube Station (also the location for our first Space Invader). Make sure you’re there before 13:15, cause that’s when we’ll start with out quest (so no running late!). Please email me if you’re interested in coming along. Let’s go a hunting…
